I am an amateur artist and high school psychology teacher. A few years ago I started to paint with acrylics and have found that art was a missing piece in my life. I use art as a way of relaxing and to develop my inner mind. Art helps me see the world in a fuller and more vivid way. Even a small cardinal in one's backyard can be an explosive experience of color and movement. My art journey has helped me perceive how lovely and incredible that natural world is. I have tried many mediums but I currently prefer watercolor and oil pastels. I recently became interested in water color illustration and hope to pursue that more in the future.

Prints, stickers, and Cute Stuff…

I just did an informal inventory on my art supplies as I got a new storage unit. It looks like of the last few years I have easily spent $1500. Maybe I have a problem?
More Moon Rabbits
A little doodle I did after work to relax today. Clearly, I am getting a little obsessed with this theme. Copic Markers and fine liner.
The Ascent of Rabbit
Watercolor, ink, and paint marker.

Human beings are naturally inclined to find patterns even where there are none. This phenomenon is called Apophenia. For this reason, we see animals in the stars and shapes in the moon. While it is common to view a man in the moon in western civilization the rabbit is also commonly viewed in the moon in many cultures. There are many myths on how a rabbit's image became imprinted on the moon.

Monkey, Otter, Jackal, and Rabbit pledge to practice charity on the Buddhist day of observance. The animals came across an old beggar who was staving. Monkey offered fruits from the trees, Otter gave fish, and Jackal brought a stolen pot of milk curd. While rabbit seeing he could only gather grass a food not fit for humans tossed himself on the fire sacrificing himself to save the old man. The old man was actually a Buddhist God Sakra (sometimes Emperor of the Heavens) who honored rabbit by placing him on the moon. You can still see the rabbit draped in smoke on the moon today. This is a popular myth in Asia with versions found in China, Japan, Vietnam, and Korea. Interestingly there is very similar Mayan myth where Rabbit offers himself to the disguise Quetzalcoatl. In some myths, Rabbit is pounding the elixir of life or rice. Thus my inclusion of a mortar.

You've been hugged!
Because hugs are great, and you are great.

Spread the DA love around! (you can copy and paste this message on their userpage!)
1- You can hug the person who hugged you!
2- You -MUST- hug 10 other people, at least!
3- You should hug them in public! Paste it on their page!
4- Random hugs are perfectly okay! (and sweet)
5- You should most definitely get started hugging right away!

And Happy New year :)
